Students who attended school at Westside Elementary, Sisseton Middle School, or Sisseton High School in the spring prior are automatically enrolled in the district for the following school year.
For New K-12 Student enrollment, please stop in the Business Office to register your student. You will be asked to provide a copy of the student's birth certificate and updated immunization records. Additional paperwork needs to be completed in your student's building.

Student Open Enrollment Information:
Open enrollment applications must be completed and filed with the Sisseton School District prior to the last Friday in September for enrollment during the fall semester. Sisseton School District families who have open-enrolled their student into another public school district in MN or SD - PLEASE NOTE:
Effective July 1, 2018, if after the conclusion of the school year a previously open enrolled student wishes to return to their resident district the student must notify their resident district of their intent to return. This notification must be provided to the resident district on or before August 1st on a form provided by the Department of Education. The form is found here: https://doe.sd.gov/ofm/documents/Intent-Enroll.pdf Although the statute prescribed an August 1st deadline, if the school board or boards determine that special circumstances exist, a student may be allowed to transfer to the resident district or assigned school after this deadline.

Preschool and Kindergarten students will not be able to start school until all Immunizations are up to date and a copy of the Immunization Record and Birth Certificate are on file. To be eligible to attend Preschool students need to be age 4 by August and Kindergarten students need to be age 5 ON or BEFORE 9-1-2022 (for the 2022-23 school year).

6th Grade REQUIRED Immunizations: Tdap* (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) MCV4* (Meningococcal)NOTE: Hib, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, annual Influenza, and Pneumococcal vaccines are recommended but not required.
For more information, talk with your family physician or your local community health nurse about these and other vaccinations your preteen should receive. *School entry REQUIREMENT for South Dakota 6th grade students.

Home School/Alternative Instruction Overview

Home School / Alternative Instruction Enrollment Information:
Parents/guardians are encouraged to submit notifications for alternative instruction through the online system to streamline communication, available at https://doe.sd.gov/oatq/homeschooling.aspx.
During the 2021 legislative session, SB 177 revised the provisions of parental choice regarding compulsory school attendance. On July 1, 2021 the revised law went into effect. Parents/guardians who choose to provide alternative instruction pursuant to SDCL 13-27-3 are required to file an Alternative Instruction Notification. The notification must be submitted on a form provided by the Department of Education.
For individuals who choose, a paper copy (pdf) (word doc) of the notification may be downloaded and submitted per the instructions on the form.For questions regarding Alternative Instruction/Home Schooling, contact Carol Uecker at (605) 773-4771.
