    Students who attended school at Westside Elementary, Sisseton Middle School, or Sisseton High School the prior spring are automatically enrolled in the district for the following school year.   

    For New K-12 Student enrollment, please stop in the Business Office to register your student.  You will be asked to provide a copy of the student's birth certificate and updated immunization records.  Additional paperwork needs to be completed in your student's building. 

Student Open - Enrollment Information Overview

  • Sisseton School District families who have open-enrolled their student into another public school district in MN or SD - PLEASE NOTE: 
    Effective July 1, 2018, if after the conclusion of the school year a previously open enrolled student wishes to return to their resident district the student must notify their resident district of their intent to return. This notification must be provided to the resident district on or before August 1st on a form provided by the Department of Education. The form is found here: https://doe.sd.gov/ofm/documents/Intent-Enroll.pdf    

    Although the statute prescribed an August 1st deadline, if the school board or boards determine that special circumstances exist, a student may be allowed to transfer to the resident district or assigned school after this deadline.

  • Parents/Guardians residing within the Sisseton School District who intend to homeschool their child(ren) need to fill out a notification of public school exemption each year (https://doe.sd.gov/oatq/documents/20-ExemptForm.pdf). 

    Parent(s)/guardian(s) filing an initial exemption notification must include for each child: a. A certified copy of the child's birth certificate, within 30 days of initial enrollment or excuse; OR b. Affidavit in lieu of the birth certificate as issued by the Department of Health (SDCL 13-27-3.1). 

    *Per SDCL 13-27-3, Each child receiving alternative instruction in grades four, eight, or eleven shall take a nationally standardized achievement test of the basic skills. Please contact Dr. Michelle Greseth for information on this assessment (michelle.greseth@k12.sd.us). Test results are to be provided to the school the following year when providing public school exemption notification.
