Message from Sisseton School District Superintendent

  • May 8, 2020

    Sisseton School District Families,

First, I want to thank you for the support you have provided to your students during the extended school closure. Never before in my career had I given thought to how we would continue to provide educational services off-site for several months. While this was a learning process for all involved, I appreciate the grace that has been shared, as we have all learned together these past weeks.

Families that have school-issued computers, Chromebooks, library books, textbooks, or other district resources are asked to return these to the school. We will host a drop-off point at the Sisseton Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, May 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Thursday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Staff will come to your vehicle to pick up all school materials. You will be asked to place the computer/Chromebook and charger in one school-provided bag, and any other materials in another schoolprovided bag. If you are unable to drop off any district materials these two days, please contact your student’s building to determine a different drop-off time.

The school district will continue to provide meals to any child, ages 18 and under, through the summer food program. Student meals will only be available for pickup at the Ben Reifel entrance beginning May 18. Meals will be served from 11:00-12:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Meals the week of Memorial Day will be available on Tuesday, May 26, and Thursday, May 28. Each meal package will contain two breakfast meals and two lunch meals. Students do not have to be present at meal pickup, but we do ask that you only send healthy family members to pick up these meals. Any changes or updates to the summer food program will be placed on the district website (Sisseton.k12.sd.us), and on the district Facebook pages.

Senior students will celebrate their high school graduation with a live ceremony on Saturday, May 16, at 2:00 p.m. To comply with CDC and Executive Order guidance, this ceremony will be limited to graduating seniors and their immediate family members. However, we invite the public to join us via radio broadcast on 102.9 FM. Livestream information will be found on the Sisseton School District website. After the graduation ceremony, the graduates will be led through town by School Resource Officer Appel. Community members are encouraged to line the homecoming parade route to honor the senior class. Please follow CDC guidelines and maintain social distancing protocols.

I cannot say Thank You often enough to the teachers, district staff, students, families, and community members who have supported our students and each other through this extended school closure. While I am saddened how abruptly our face-to-face learning environment ended this year, I share sincere gratitude for all who have helped to support our students during these past two months. Thank you to each of you for your role in helping Sisseton School District students in continuing their learning journey. Be well, and I look forward to seeing everyone again this fall.

    Sincerely,

    Tammy Meyer, Superintendent
    Sisseton School District
