Westside had an outstanding first week of school! We are working together on safety, procedures, building relationships, morning meeting each day and preparing for content to begin slow and sure this coming week. The library and steam areas are updated after the summer construction project and will be fully ready for you to see at conferences. Welcome to all our new staff, the photo shown is of our new district nurse Olivia Braun. We look forward to working with you for our learners this year. Reminder school begins at 8:20am and ends at 3:20pm. Vehicles in the pick up line will be first for pick up and loading each day. Thank you for joining the vehicle pick up line if picking up your child after school. Attendance is key! On time everyday all day! Be sure to follow the school website and Facebook for ongoing school updates. Thank you to Family Life, SARSPA, Modern Woodmen, VFW Auxiliary, and Christian Outreach Center for all the welcome to school refreshments!

Parents/Guardians: We look forward to seeing our students and families at Westside on the first day of school Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Classrooms will be open tomorrow only at 7:50am. Parents/guardians are welcome to park on the north side of the street in front of the school and walk in with their child on the first day without signing in at the office. No parking in the stop and drop zone until after 8:05am. Reminder: Please review the cell phone/all electronic devices procedure in the handbook. If an elementary student must bring a device to school, it is the child's responsibility and will be stored in the child's backback/locker (lockers do not lock). It is encouraged for elementary students to not bring personal cell phones/electronic devices to school. Reminder school starts at 8:20am and ends at 3:20pm. The end of day pick up zone will begin when school concludes. PLEASE remain in your vehicle end of day in the pick up zone, follow the directions from the crossing guards and staff on the sidewalk. We will send your child to your vehicle. Please keep the front doors and entry clear as they need to be accessible for our students to exit the building. Thank you and welcome back to school!

READ~READ~READ WESTSIDE WAVE LEARNERS! Benefits of Summer Reading For students, continuing the act of reading no matter the text helps them retain literacy skills over the summer and into the incoming academic year. Research confirms that with just 15 minutes of reading any text at all per day (and yes, graphic novels and magazines count), kids will continue to benefit from skills they developed in the previous school year. Engagement in summer learning programs has shown promising results, with participants often showing gains in reading skills equivalent to an additional month of school. Such programs are also linked to higher graduation rates and improved self-esteem among students.
