Elementary School

A few highlights from the week. Preschool experienced s'mores at school during their camping unit. Fourth grade community visits to Edgewood and Tekakwitha. Thank you to Mrs. Ziemer and Miss Brittany Kurrasch for your yes for this to occur. A shout out to our high school students that visit classrooms each week for skill practice. They shine bright and light up the halls and rooms with their smiles and care for our learners.

Congratulations to 3rd and 4th grade learners with perfect and good attendance for quarter one. Thank you to all parents/guardians and adult caretakers for your 'Yes' to have your children at school on time, everyday, all day! Consistency is essential for growth, learning and achievement to occur in the present and for the future.

This week we celebrate learners with perfect attendance (0 days absent) and good attendance (1-2 days absent) during quarter one. We get to recognize 91 learners with perfect attendance and 150 learners with good attendance.

Congratulations and thank you parents/guardians and adult caretakers for your support and dedication for your child to be at school on time everyday all day!
Attendace matters and consistency is essential for our children to learn, grow and achieve.

The Sisseton School District Native American Parent Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 19, from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Sisseton HS/MS Multipurpose Room. All are invited to attend.

UPCOMING HEARING SCREENING NOTIFICATION

The South Dakota Services for the Deaf (SDSD) will conduct free hearing screenings at our school for grades: K, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 11

THIS YEAR, HEARING SCREENINGS WILL TAKE PLACE ON: Thursday, November 6th

If your child does not pass the hearing screening, the South Dakota Services for the deaf will contact you with the results. Rescreens or further testing can be completed at no charge, with the pediatric audiologist at:

Happy School Psychologists Week! Thank you to our incredible school psychologists for supporting student success and well-being every day.

This week at Westside - our crosswalk supervisors brought traffic cones to life! Alicia Finnesand, Kallyn Peterson and Emily Searles. Thank you to all parents/guardians for daily following their direction to be Always Safe while driving with and for our children. Preschool and Jr Kgn all smiles - Eager to Learn and Value Respect for self and one another. Mrs. Ziemer and Ricky Hill shine bright after daily announcements to be Well Prepared for the school day. Mrs. Holler reads with a student end of day and shown with a class during morning meeting this week as they learn and share to Value Respect. We are thankful for all of our staff that support our students each day. First grade students in small group Eager to Learn and help one another at young ages. Josiah Bagola brought his drum, sang and played for music and his class! It was amazing! Five fourth graders recognized this week for zero office referrals and an average of 96% attendance their career at Westside! Outstanding! Lena LaBelle, Brynja Knudsen, Dillon Meyer, Jameson Klapperich and Hazel Neilan. We are grateful for each day and thank parents/guardians for expecting excellence for your child's attendance and education.

A few photos from last week! Bonus recess for classes with 10 days perfect attendance, music class is preparing for the concert, we are grateful for our high school students that connect with our learners each week, many smiles and Hip, Hip Hoorays!

Community visits this week included the firehall! Thank you local firemen for your time with our students and staff and for all you do for our community. 4th Graders visited Edgewood and Tekakwitha. We ended the week with positive principal calls home for 4th graders with zero office referrals and 95% overall average attendance their career at Westside! Congratulations to Troy Jackson, Levi Hillestad, Brinley Hoffman and Harley Herrington. Thank you parents/guardians and staff for your 'yes' for children each day to provide a culture for learning at Westside.

Preschool learned about Fire Safety this week! Thank you Fireman Tyler Hellwig for your visit to preschool this week. We appreciate you and all of our local emergency safety services.

Parents/Guardians/Family Members and Community Members: Westside Student Council Fundraiser is happening this week - prizes will be drawn Friday morning! The student council funds are for annual student assessment t-shirts, Westside WAVE gear incentives, attendance and positive school culture events throughout the year. Thank you in advance for your support for our students and staff each day. Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased through Thursday end of day.
